We seek the most environmentally friendly lodging combing responsible tourism with environment friendliness.

Dishes, cups, glasses, mugs, tableware, and serving pieces are long-lasting, not disposable.

Breakfast and supper will arrive at your table with only the freshest organic food that's been grown in a manner sensitive to its natural habitat grown and raised in the natural season and, with the exceptions of coffee and tea, having traveled “zero kilometers”: our suppliers are local producers and we cultivate only local plants using no pesticides or other toxic chemicals.

The freezer is empty and will remain so. In our kitchen closets you can find many preserves and sun dried  fruit.

Towels and linens are of cotton: thus not adding volatile organic compounds to the air of the guestrooms where they are used. Laundry is done avoiding dangerous chemical cleaning products harmful to the environment and guests. It is line dried.

We recycle gray wastewater composed of wash water from the kitchen, bathrooms sinks and showers/tubs, laundry sinks and tubs, and washing machines (clothes and dish) where only non-polluting, biodegradable soaps are using it for irrigation and we also collect rain

The renovation of the Palmento was designed as to ensure that no lights are required anywhere in the lodge during daytime, with the exception of what ladies need for make-up and similar activities. All spaces are designed to receive an adequate amount of natural light. All materials have been chosen to have the smallest possible ecological footprint.

We take actions to: conserve heat, conserve water, install eco-friendly lighting, reduce oil/gas carbon emissions.

Hot water is provided by a large solar panel and, when needed, boosted by a wetback gas fired stove.

Heating is provided burning wood and, when needed boosted with gpl.

The electricity we do consume from the grid is produced only by windmills and hydro plants which means the lodge is almost entirely run on renewable resources.
